About the project

To improve safety around Taupaki School, we are making several changes to the footpath and the school entrance.

The changes we’re making by June 2026

  • Building a new footpath on the western side of Cottle Road, from the school entrance to the staff carpark entrance, to connect two existing sections of footpath. The new footpath will provide a direct connection between the school and the neighbouring kindergarten, improving access and safety for children and caregivers.

  • Installing a speed hump at the school entrance to help reduce vehicle speeds on entry.

Benefits to your community

  • Footpaths improve safety by separating people walking from traffic and providing safer places to wait when crossing.

  • Well-designed footpaths reduce the risk of injury for people walking, cycling, or using scooters.

  • Better footpath connections make it easier and more comfortable to move around the neighbourhood, linking people to schools, parks, public transport, and local amenities.

  • Supporting walking and cycling improves health and helps reduce car use for short trips, easing congestion and lowering emissions.

What happens next

  • We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on this website.
