About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns for people walking through Takapuna Service Lane in Takapuna Square.

Takapuna Square is a vibrant, popular place with lots of shops, businesses, and public transport nearby. Both cars and people use the service lane, so these improvements will make it safer and easier for everyone to get around.

The changes we’re making

  • Install a new rubber judder bar outside #30 Hurstmere Road, to slow down traffic and keep people safe.
  • Repainting road markings to make the existing speed humps outside #56-60 Hurstmere Road, easier for drivers to see.
  • Installing new signs to slow the one-way direction of the service lane up to Anzac Street.
  • Adding new signs to support these safety changes.

Benefits to your community:

  • Encourages drivers to slow down and take extra care when travelling along the lane, and improves visibility between motorists and people sharing the road.
  • New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
  • Ensures everyone in the community can move around the neighbourhood safely, offering better connections to parks, public transport, businesses, and other local amenities.

What happens next

We will install these changes in early 2026

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
