About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the local community about Sunnynook Road in Totara Vale, particularly near the existing bus stop Vehicles parking near this location prevents ease of bus access.

To improve safety and support reliable bus services, we’re making changes to clearly define the bus stop area and keep this section of road clear.

The changes we’re making by May- June 2026

  • We’ll install a new bus stop on Sunnynook Road.
  • We’ll add “no stopping at all times” (broken yellow lines) on the lead-in and lead-out of the bus stop.
  • Hockey stick markings (white limit line markings) will clearly mark the start and end of the no stopping area.

Benefits to your community:

  • Improves safety by keeping the bus stop and bend clear of parked vehicles.
  • Provides safer access and departure for buses, reducing conflicts with general traffic.
  • Improves visibility and space for drivers and buses to move safely
  • Enhances safety for all road users, including people walking and cycling.
  • Supports more reliable and efficient bus services along Sunnynook Road.

What happens next

  • Any changes to the plan will be updated on our website.
  • Installation of road markings will take one day in suitable weather conditions.
  • We understand this work may cause some inconvenience and will minimise disruption as much as possible while prioritising safety.
  • Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed.
