Making it safer and easier for people to cross and travel through Station Road, Maurice Road and O’Rorke Road in Penrose.

Kia ora,

We’re letting you know about proposed safety improvements at intersections around Go Media Stadium in Penrose.

Why are the changes needed?

This is a busy commercial and industrial area used by people walking, driving, taking public transport, moving freight and travelling to and from events at Go Media Stadium.

Some pedestrian facilities are limited or in poor condition, therefore, more connected walking routes are needed between local streets, businesses, Penrose Station, and nearby destinations.

We are proposing the following changes:

Footpaths, line marking and road layout

  • Widen the footpath on the southern side of Station Road between the Maurice Road and O’Rorke Road Intersections.
  • Make supporting road layout and line-marking changes needed to help the intersections operate safely and effectively.

How this will benefit your neighbourhood

  • Improves pedestrian safety by providing safer and more reliable crossing opportunities.
  • Improves connectivity for people moving between local streets, businesses, and nearby services.
  • Provides more space for people walking along the southern side of Station Road between the two intersections.
  • Supports improved traffic flow from Maurice Road and O’Rorke Road during peak traffic hours.
  • Helps create a safer, more predictable intersection for all road users.

What happens next

We will be in touch before any work takes place.

Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
