About the Project:

We’re improving footpath safety on Falls Road and Hill Street in Warkworth to provide safe, convenient and well-connected walking options in your community.

This is part of our Footpath Programme, which commits to encouraging safe walking options in your neighbourhood.

The changes we’re making in Summer 2025/2026

  • Install new footpaths and kerbs on the northern side of Falls Road and Hill Street between Champers Way and Albert Road. This extends the footpath by 232 meters between the driveways of 78 and 80 Falls Road and 56 Hill Street.

  • Reconstructing driveways that will be impacted by the new footpath. Any work that alters a driveway shall be at our cost.

  • Clearing vegetation and removing and relocating some trees to clear access for people using the footpath.

  • Install a new kerb line outside 78-80 Falls Road to provide space for the large trees on the corner of Falls Road and Champers Way.

  • Install a new kerb line outside 84A Falls to the driveway of 68 Falls Road to provide space for the large trees on the corner of Falls Road and Champers Way.

  • Paint no stopping (broken yellow lines) on Champers Way and Falls Road intersection, and Albert Road and Hill Street intersection. This gives better visibility and ensures motorists have a safe and unblocked view when approaching the corners of the intersections.

    • We will need to clear access and visibility by reallocating road space, which will result in the removal of 20 parking spaces at the intersections. On-street parking spaces removed will be - 8 on Falls Road, 3 on Champers Way and 9 on Albert Road.

A full design drawing is available on this page, titled "Falls Road Footpath Design" which shows the design locations on a PDF map.

Benefits to your community:

  • Footpaths make it safer for the community by separating motorists and traffic from people on foot. Widening the footpath gives more room for people to wait to cross
  • Pram crossings, make it safer and more convenient for people pushing prams or strollers and ensures those with mobility needs can navigate crossings more easily
  • Well-maintained footpaths are safer for people who walk and ride their bikes and scooters, reducing the risk of being hurt or injured.
  • More footpaths make it easier and stress-free for the community to move around the neighbourhood, offering better connections to schools, parks, public transport and other local amenities.
  • Walking and cycling is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.
