We’re making improvements to Kitchener and Hurstmere Roads between Earnoch Avenue and Sylvan Park Avenue in Takapuna, to make it safer for people cycling, driving, and catching the bus. We’ll be updating road markings and adding new signs to help drivers slow down, improve lane delineation, and make it easier for everyone to share the road safely.
The changes we are making mid 2026:
- Install new yellow BUS STOP markings outside 50 Kitchener Road, 1A Muritai Road, and 276 Hurstmere Road to clearly show designated bus stops.
- Install new driver feedback signs outside 45 and 18 Kitchener Road to improve driver awareness of their speed and encourage safer driving in the area.
- Install new SLOW markings outside 45 and 18 Kitchener Road to encourage drivers to slow down and take extra care when travelling in this area.
- Install new no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside 96A and 48A Kitchener Road to improve bus access to the stop.
- Upgrade road centre line and edge line markings along Kitchener and Hurstmere Roads, between Earnoch Avenue and Sylvan Park Avenue, to create a clearer space between parked cars and moving traffic.
Benefits to your community:
- Encourages drivers to slow down and take extra care
- Makes it safer for people cycling by giving them more space away from parked cars. This reduces the risk of collisions between cyclists and parked cars, improving overall safety along this section of road.
- Makes it easier and safer for buses to stop and pick up passengers.
- Improves lane delineation and safety for everyone using the road.
