About the project
We’ll be improving crossing safety at Beach Road and Anzac Road, Browns Bay.
The changes we're making by April 2026
Reconstruct the existing crossing island and footpath for the proposed zebra crossing at the Beach Road and Anzac Road intersection. We’re rebuilding the crossing island and footpath to create a safer, more accessible zebra crossing for everyone, including people using prams, wheelchairs, or micromobility devices.
Install tactile pavers. These are yellow textured markers that help people with vision impairments find their way across the road.
Paint new road markings and install new signs. These markings and signs will remind drivers to slow down and give way to people using the crossing.
Benefits to your community
Safer Crossings - Zebra crossings make it easier and safer for people to cross the road by giving pedestrians the right of way and encouraging drivers to slow down.
Better Accessibility – The improved pram crossing and tactile pavers make it easier for people with mobility needs, parents with strollers , and those with vision impairments to get around safely.
More travel choices - These changes make it easier to walk, cycle, or use a scooter around Browns Bay, which is great for you, your whanau, and the environment.
Better for you - Being able to move around your neighbourhood safety encourages more time outdoors, which is good for your health and wellbeing.
