About this project

As part of Auckland Transport’s Road Safety Programme, we’re installing a new mountable roundabout and crossing to make this intersection safer for everyone.

Graham Collins Drive is a busy residential street that pedestrians frequently use to reach Rangitoto College and retirement village nearby. By upgrading this intersection, we are making this area safer, and more accessible for people travelling through Rosedale Road.

Changes we’re making in second half of 2026:

  • Build a new mountable roundabout with traffic islands on Rosedale at the intersection of Graham Collins Drive to improve safety.

  • Install a new paired crossing on a raised table on Graham Collins Drive which will give priority to people walking and cycling when crossing the road.

  • Install a new shared path with new kerb build out and grass berm along the southern side of Rosedale Road near the intersection to provide cycle connectivity at the intersection.

  • Install new refuge islands with pram crossings on the western side of Rosedale Road (outside 29 Rosedale Road) to improve safety for people on foot.

  • Install a new raised safety platform to ensure smooth descent for vehicles from the raised crossing.

  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) on Graham Collins Drive and Rosedale Road to ensure visibility near the crossing.

A drawing showing the changes is included below.

Benefits to your community

  • Safer for everyone – A crossing upgrade and a new roundabout will improve safety for all road users by slowing speeds and reducing the chance of crashes and near misses at the intersection.
  • Better Traffic Movement – The roundabout will help manage busy roads and make it easier for vehicles to move through the intersection.
  • Family- Friendly Design: Re-aligned cycle lanes, shared path, pram crossing, and other upgrades will make it more convenient for families to get around.
  • Improved Road Use: Re-allocating road space will provide clear access at the intersection and reduce queueing. This will allow vehicles to turn safely.

What happens next

  • We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
