About the Project:

We’re improving footpath safety along Rosedale Road.

This project aims to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the community.

New walking and cycling paths have been built along the motorway (SH1 and SH18) as part of Waka Kotahi NZTA’s Northern Corridor Improvements to give people more options to walk and cycle. Now we’re working on making it easier for people to get to them from nearby streets and ensure local connections are safer and easier to access.

One of these connections is the Alexandra Stream path along Jack Hinton Drive, which links to the SH18 paths. But near the existing traffic lights near Jack Hinton Drive, the path gets narrow and harder to use. We’re planning to widen this section to make it safer and more comfortable for people walking and cycling.

The changes we’re making

  • New shared path: A continuous walking and cycling path will be constructed along the southern side of Rosedale Road, running between the existing traffic light-controlled crossing and the Jack Hinton Drive intersection
  • Cycle ramp: A new cycle ramp will be built on Rosedale Road to improve cycling amenities
  • Wayfinding signs: New signs will be installed to make people aware of the shared path and the Alexandra Stream pathway
  • Line marking and signs: Adjustments will be made to line markings and signage associated with the new shared path.

A full design drawing is available to the right of this page titled "Rosedale Road Shared Path Design", which shows the location on a map.

Benefits to your community:

    • Enhanced safety: The new shared path will provide a safer environment for both cyclists and people on foot, by separating them from traffic as well as protecting people from being hurt or seriously injured
    • Improved connectivity: The project will offer better connections to local amenities, including schools, parks, and public transport.
    • Environmental benefits: Encouraging walking and cycling helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing carbon emissions.
    • Health benefits: Walking and cycling are great for your health and well-being.
