As part our road safety programme, we will be making Wayby Valley Road between Wilson Road and Whangaripo Valley Road safer for all vehicles travelling through the area. This area has a high risk of crashes, including loss of control and head-on collisions from crossing the centre line. The project aims to improve safety for all road users of this section of road.
The changes we are making in mid-2026:
Infill missing Edge Marker Posts (EMPs) on Wayby Valley Road between Wilson Road and Whangaripo Valley Road to help delineate the alignment of the road ahead, especially around horizontal, and vertical curve sections.
Install new red cat’s eyes and infill (Red Reflective Raised Pavement Markers) on Wayby Valley Road between Wilson Road and Whangaripo Valley Road. These reflect light from car headlights, making the road edges easier to see at night around curves and help drivers stay on track especially at night and in bad weather.
Install new curve advisory and advisory speed signs between the Wilson Road and Whangaripo Valley Road intersections. These signs warn drivers that they are coming up to a tight curve or bend in the road and recommends a safe and comfortable speed to drive around the curve.
Install new white centreline markers between 535 and 564 Wayby Valley Road to mark the centre of the road between opposite lanes of traffic or to divide lanes of traffic moving in the same direction.
A full drawing showing all the changes can be found to the right of this page.
Benefits to your community:
Make the road safer by reducing the risk of head-on or run-off-road crashes.
Help drivers stay alert and aware, especially in poor visibility at night or in bad weather.
Improves safety for everyone using Wayby Valley Road - drivers, passengers, and other road users.

We will be in touch with residents before any work takes place.
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
