About the project
We are making safety improvements at the intersection of Riverside Road and Centreway Road intersection Orewa.
The intersection is located near Orewa Town Centre and Orewa College. It is a busy location for public and school bus services, and has high numbers of pedestrian activity, particularly during school peak hours. There is currently no pedestrian crossing at this busy location.
The changes we’re making by June 2026
Install a new pedestrian zebra crossing on the western approach of the roundabout
Install tactile pavers which are yellow guidance markers at the crossing to help vision impaired people safely cross the road
Install new signs and road markings so drivers know they need to slow down when approaching the intersection and be aware of the nearby crossing
Install one new speed cushion approaching the new zebra from the west
Remove the existing pram crossing at the intersection and replace with grass
A drawing of the changes is available to download from this page.
Benefits to your community
Improves safety for everyone with different accessibility needs to safely cross the road
Provides better access to bus stops and the shopping precinct
Encourages drivers to slow down and take extra care when approaching the crossing and improves visibility at the intersection for all road users
Walking and cycling are good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.
What happens next
We are proceeding with the proposal as proposed and expect to deliver this project in mid 2026.
We will contact residents and businesses before any work begins.
