About this project

We’re responding to concerns raised by the community to improve walking safety on Puhoi Road. Currently, many vehicles are parked on or across the footpath, making it unsafe for people walking. As more families move into the area, more people are walking to the shops, school, bus stops, and around the neighbourhood.

Thanks to the Rodney Local Board Transport Capital Fund, we’ll be installing new wooden wheel stops and road marking to improve access to amenities and make it safer and easier for everyone walking.

The changes we’re making in early 2026:

  • Install new wooden wheel stops on Puhoi Road between Puhoi Town Library and Bridge with minor road marking improvements.

A drawing showing the has been included below:

Benefits to your community:

  • Wheel stops will not allow vehicles to park on the footpath, improving safety for everyone with different accessibility needs on Puhoi Road.
  • Better access and connections to local shops, schools and bus stops, helping people get around easily.
  • New road markings and signs improve safety by minimising the risk of collisions and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
  • Walking is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.

What happens next

  • We will be in touch with residents before any work takes place.
  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our webpage.
