About the Project
As part of our Road Safety Programme, we’re planning to install a new mountable roundabout at the intersection of Portage Road and Links Road. This upgrade will improve safety, assist traffic movements in and out of Links Road, and provide safer crossing facilities for people walking and cycling. The changes we’re making
New mountable roundabout and traffic islands to improve intersection safety
New crossing island with pram ramps on Portage Road will provide a safer place to wait and make crossing easier
Upgraded pram ramps on Links Road that will include tactile pavers
New shared path on Portage Road and realigning the cycleway to help people on bikes navigate through the roundabout safely
Removal of 10 car parks on Portage Road and 8 on Links Road to improve visibility and reduce congestion
New road signs and white markings to support the new layout
Benefits to your community
Safer for Everyone: A new roundabout will improve safety for all road users by slowing speeds and reducing the chance of crashes and near misses at the intersection.
Better Traffic Movement: The roundabout will help manage busy roads and make it easier for vehicles to move through the area.
Family- Friendly Design: Re-aligned cycle lanes, shared path, pram ramps, and other upgrades will make it more convenient for families to get around.
Improved Road Use: Re-allocating road space will provide clear access at the intersection and reduce queueing. This will allow vehicles to turn safely.
What happens next
We will install these changes in the 2026/2027 Financial Year.
Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
We will be in touch with the local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
