About the project
We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community by making improvements to safety and visibility for motorists when travelling through the intersection of Piha Road and Scenic Drive in Waiatarua.
Our investigation showed that the current layout can be confusing and unsafe, so we’re putting in new measures and signs to make the intersection clearer and safer for everyone.
Realing the road to improve visibility and access to make it easier to move through the intersection.
Remove the free left-turn lane from Scenic Drive to Piha Road and move the Quinns Road stop control closer to Scenic Drive.
Install a traffic island and reinstate grass to improve safety at the road layout.
Restrict left turns from Piha Road for vehicles longer than 6 metres.
Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) around the corner of Piha and Quinns Roads to clear access so vehicles can enter and exit the intersection more safely.
Install new signs and paint new road markings to support these changes so motorists know they are approaching traffic controls at the intersection.
