About the project
Safety improvements at the Papakura–Clevedon Road, Mullins Road and Petersons Road intersection
We are proposing to enhance safety at high‐risk intersections throughout Auckland.
This project aims to improve safety at the intersection of Papakura–Clevedon Road, Mullins Road and Petersons Road, which has been identified as a high-risk location under Auckland Transport’s High-Risk Intersections Programme due to its poor crash history involving turning movements and currently features a lack of pedestrian crossing facilities. The proposal is expected to significantly reduce the likelihood of crashes at the intersection and enhance the safety for all road users.
Crash History: Between 2020 and 2024, eight crashes were recorded, with one resulting in a serious injury and two resulting in minor injuries. Notably, two of the injury crashes (one serious and one minor) involved vehicles waiting to turn right into Mullins Road being struck from behind.
What we’re planning to do before June 2027
To improve safety, we are proposing the following changes at the intersection:
Widen the road to create space for the new flush median, helping everyone turn safely and easily.
Change the intersection control from ‘Give Way’ to ‘STOP’.
Realign the grass berm and swale drain where needed.
Improve the road surface, signs, and road markings where required.
You can view the proposed layout in the attached plans.
How this will benefit your neighbourhood
These improvements aim to make the intersection safer and more convenient for everyone using it.
Key benefits include:
A dedicated right turn waiting space
Better traffic flow for vehicles to move through the area
Safer and easier to turn at the intersections
A clearer and safer road layout for the community
This is a small-scale upgrade and is not expected to cause significant long-term disruption for residents or road users.
What happens next
We want to hear your feedback on:
Any local knowledge or observations that may help refine the design
Any operational considerations we should be aware of
Suggestions that could improve the final layout or construction approach
We would love to hear your feedback until 8 May 2026
