About the project

We’re making it safer for people to walk and cross the road to reach the shops and local services on Paerata Road and Crisp Avenue.

Many locals have told us they want a safer way to cross the road — but right now, there’s no crossing facility in this location. These changes are based on that feedback.

What we’re doing

  • Install a new pedestrian refuge island in the middle of the road. (This is a small, raised area that gives people a safe spot to pause halfway, so they can safely wait for traffic to pass before crossing.)

  • Upgrade the footpath and kerb extension at the corner of Paerata Road and Crisp Avenue. This is to provide more space for people walking, improve visibility, shorten crossing distances, and help slow down turning vehicles.

  • Install tactile pavers (yellow guidance tiles) on both sides of the crossing to support people who are blind or have low vision.

Benefit to your community

  • Make it safer to cross the road, especially near shops and bus stops
  • Slow down traffic, particularly at turning points
  • Improve safety and visibility for everyone
  • Support people walking and using public transport
  • Make it easier to access local shops and services

What’s next

We plan to make these changes in 2026 subject to confirmed funding.
