About the project
We’re making it safer for people to walk and cross the road to reach the shops and local services on Paerata Road and Crisp Avenue.
Many locals have told us they want a safer way to cross the road — but right now, there’s no crossing facility in this location. These changes are based on that feedback.
What we’re doing
- Install a new pedestrian refuge island in the middle of the road. (This is a small, raised area that gives people a safe spot to pause halfway, so they can safely wait for traffic to pass before crossing.)
- Upgrade the footpath and kerb extension at the corner of Paerata Road and Crisp Avenue. This is to provide more space for people walking, improve visibility, shorten crossing distances, and help slow down turning vehicles.
- Install tactile pavers (yellow guidance tiles) on both sides of the crossing to support people who are blind or have low vision.
- Paint broken yellow lines (No Stopping At All times) near the crossing and on the corners of Crisp Avenue to improve visibility. This will remove one parking space outside #6 Paerata Road so drivers can better see people crossing.
