Have Your Say
The Ōrākei Local Board and Auckland Transport are working together to make it easier and safer for people to cross the road on Patteson Avenue. We’ve heard from the community that crossing safely here is a concern, especially for tamariki, whānau, and people heading to the reserve, playground, Mission Bay Kindergarten, or nearby bus stops.
We want to hear your feedback on the proposed improvements.
What we’re proposing
To improve safety and access, we’re proposing to:
Install a new pedestrian refuge crossing in the centre of the road (This is a small, raised island that lets you cross in two stages, with a safe place to pause in the middle.)
Relocate two bus stops to outside #83 and #86 Patteson Avenue
Install tactile pavers (yellow textured markers) to help people who are blind or have low vision
Paint broken yellow lines (No Stopping At All Times) around the new bus stops and the refuge crossing to improve visibility and safety. This will result in the removal of 13 parking spaces.
Add 3 new parking spaces in the desirable pull-in bay area in front of the reserve to help offset some of the parking loss.
Add pram crossings on either side of the road to improve accessibility for people with strollers, wheelchairs, or mobility aids.

How this benefits your community
These proposed changes will:
Make it safer and easier to cross the road.
Provide safer access to the reserve, playground, bus stop, and nearby facilities.
Improve accessibility for whānau, tamariki and people with mobility challenges.
Add a refuge crossing that lets people cross in two stages. This helps traffic flow better than a raised or signalised crossing, because vehicles don’t have to stop but people can still cross safely.
This project is funded by the Local Board Transport Capital Fund Programme which supports improvements based on community priorities. The improvements will be delivered by Auckland Transport on behalf of your local board.
