About the project

We have heard the community's concerns around parking availability on the Hibiscus Coast Highway near the Orewa beach children's playground. From February 2026, we will be introducing time-restricted parking from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Implementing a time restriction will improve parking availability, allowing these parking spaces to be used by more families and visitors, as well as residents.

The changes we’re making

  • Install a 2-hour parking restriction (P120) that applies between 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday on the new angled parking spaces along the Boulevard (Hibiscus Coast Highway) near the children's playground at Orewa beach

A drawing on the right side of this page shows where the proposed changes will be installed.

Benefits to your neighbourhood

  • More Parking Availability: With a 2-hour parking limit, more people can use the parking spaces throughout the day, making it easier for families and visitors to find a spot.
  • Support Local Businesses: Higher parking turnover means more visitors can access local shops, cafes, and restaurants, boosting sales and foot traffic.
  • Convenient for Families: Families visiting the playground will have a better chance of finding parking nearby, making their visit more enjoyable.
  • Better Traffic Flow: With cars coming and going more frequently, there will be less congestion and smoother traffic flow, creating a safer environment for everyone.
  • Community-Friendly: Prioritising parking for families and short-term visitors will encourage a family-friendly atmosphere, making the neighbourhood more vibrant and accessible for both residents and visitors.

Restricted parking implies enforcement, more administration costs, etc. Surely this is an over reaction during week days when small people are likely to be there only after school. Also, I dispute the statement that "less congestion....smoother traffic flow..". I would have thought the opposite will occur.

Ridiculous. We don’t need more timed parking around this area there is plenty of parking in the area. If people can’t walk from the beach carpark to the playground as it always have been then they should just stay home.
