Improving parking in Orewa Town Centre - Have Your Say

We’re working with Hibiscus and Bays Local Board and Destination Orewa Beach to improve parking in Orewa Town Centre. A review of parking in the town centre shows that parking is very busy most of the time.

The changes are designed to support shoppers and visitors to find parking more easily which will, in turn, support local businesses and help the town centre to thrive.

We are now seeking your feedback on two options for paid parking.

Both options focus on the busiest areas. They do not include parking provided by businesses for their customers, or parking by the beach.

The aim is to increase parking availability in busy areas, and provide an option for people who need to park longer than the current time limits. The proposed cost would be $1 per hour.

Your local knowledge can help us choose the best parking plan for Orewa. Changes will support shoppers and visitors to find parking more easily which will, in turn, support local businesses.

The Proposal

Our town parking zone for Orewa stretches from Florence Avenue to Moenui Avenue, which you can see on the map below.

We have reviewed public parking in the zone and found all public parking is very busy. There are more than 400 public parking spaces in the zone plus approximately 800 parking spaces provided by businesses. There are an additional 300 parking spaces by the beach, which are outside the zone.

We are looking for your feedback on two options for paid parking to improve availability for visitors and customers. Most of public parking in Ōrewa Town Centre would remain free, with time limits.

We looked at changing time limits. However, the average length of stay in the town centre is around 1 hour 45 minutes, so reducing time limits could mean many visitors do not have enough time to complete their visit.

The locations are marked on the maps below. Both options would apply 8am - 6pm Monday to Sunday at $1 per hour. With the AT Park app, you only pay for the time you use.

The Options

Option A

  • Around 75 parking spaces in busy areas would become paid parking
  • Free parking with time limits would still be available in these areas

Option B

  • Around 58 parking spaces in the busiest areas would become paid parking
  • Free parking with time limits would still be available in these areas

The map below provides more details on the locations.
