We're proposing safety improvements at the Omahu Road and Dromorne Road intersection, and to the pedestrian crossing near Remuera Primary School. Have your say on the proposed changes below.
What we are doing
We're proposing safety improvements at the Omahu Road and Dromorne Road intersection, and to the pedestrian crossing near No. 25 Dromorne Road, close to Remuera Primary School. These changes aim to make it safer for everyone crossing and travelling through this area, especially students walking to and from school.
Children and families cross Omahu Road and Dromorne Road every school day, and we've identified opportunities to slow traffic through the intersection and provide safer, more direct crossing points for pedestrians.
What we are proposing
To improve safety in the area, we are proposing works at two locations:
Location 1: Omahu Road and Dromorne Road intersection
Install a mountable urban roundabout at the intersection, including associated signage and road markings.
Upgrade the existing pedestrian refuge crossing outside No. 15 Omahu Road to a pedestrian crossing, at the southern leg of the intersection.
Install pram crossings across Dromorne Road on the western and eastern legs of the intersection.
Install a new refuge crossing on the northern leg of the intersection.
Remove approximately 11 on-street parking spaces to improve visibility and safety around the intersection.
Location 2: Pedestrian crossing near No. 25 Dromorne Road
Raise the existing crossing by installing a speed table.
Install new kerb buildouts to reduce the crossing distance.
Remove the existing traffic islands as part of the redesign.
Add new "Stay put" signs to allow students to cross safely before and after school.
Why we doing this
Pedestrians will have safe, dedicated crossing points at the intersection.
Vehicle speeds will reduce through the intersection and outside the school.
Crossing distances will be shorter, improving accessibility for pedestrians, including those with prams, mobility needs, or limited vision.
When can you have your say
Community engagement is open for 3 weeks, from 12 August 2026 to 2 September 2026.
We will consider all community feedback and present a recommendation and feedback report to the Orakei Local Board. The Orakei Local Board will provide feedback prior to a final decision being made.
