Consultation outcome
We want to thank the community of Northcote for their active engagement and feedback on our proposal to remove the no-stopping Mon-Fri 9am-3pm parking restrictions on Tāhinga, Kitewao and Raupapa streets.
After careful consideration of the feedback we received, we have decided not toproceed with removing the no-stopping restrictions for the following reasons:
Majority of the feedback we received detailed concerns that the proposal to remove the parking restrictions will not have the intended benefit of increasing parking availability for local residents – and that instead the already limited on-street parking will be harder for residents to access when they need it.
The community expressed that there are issues with on-street parking availability, but removing the current no-stopping restrictions between 9am-3pm Mon-Fri does not address the core of the problem, which – in the community’s view – is AUT students utilising the free on-street parking instead of parking on campus.
As a result of community input, we will keep the current restrictions in place and we will communicate with AUT to address the parking concerns raised by residents. You can read the summary of community feedback in full here.
About the project
Following requests from the community to improve parking availability on Tāhinga, Kitewao and Raupapa streets in Northcote we sought feedback on a proposal to remove the no-stopping parking restrictions currently in place.
What we proposed
We proposed to increase parking availability by removing the current restriction of no parking on the street between the hours of 9am-3pm Monday to Friday to allow for parking at any time of the day. This restriction is currently in place in sections of the road on Tāhinga Street, Kitewao Street and Raupapa Street.
The existing broken yellow lines on the other sections of these streets would remain.
Benefits and impacts
The proposed changes would increase the availability of on-street parking by providing an additional 12 unrestricted spaces for residents and visitors to the area.
What we sought feedback on
We wanted to understand if there is wider community support or if there are considerations and concerns that locals may have that we are not aware of.
