Kia ora,

Auckland Transport is responding to community requests to improve pedestrian safety at the Normanby Road, Clive Road, and Edwin Street intersection.

Currently, there are no formal crossing facilities in this location, which makes it difficult for everyone to cross the road safely.

The improvements we’re making

To improve safety and access for everyone in the area, we are planning to:

  • Install new pedestrian refuge island crossings across Normanby Road, Clive Road, and Edwin Street. (These are small, raised islands that lets you cross in two stages, with a safe place to pause in the middle.)

  • Add a new planted traffic island at the corner of Normanby Road and Clive Road to help slow down turning vehicles.

  • Install new tactile pavers on both sides of the crossings to assist people who are blind or have low vision.

How this benefits your community

These improvements will:

  • Make it safer and easier for everyone to cross the road
  • Improve access to nearby schools, playground, Tahaki Reserve, local shops and facilities in the area.
  • Provide better visibility and safety for people walking, cycling, driving, or using mobility aids
  • Be delivered with no loss of parking

What’s next

Construction is scheduled to start in early 2026.

If you’d like to share your thoughts, ask questions or let us know if there’s anything we’ve missed, email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz by 21 October 2025.

We’ll update the community if there are any changes to our plan before work begins on this website.
