Improving road safety along Nixon Road in Taupaki
About the project
We’re making Nixon Road safer by adding new safety measures for people driving through Taupaki.
Our investigations show that extra improvements are needed to warn drivers about sharp bends and give better visibility along this winding rural road. This is to reduce the likelihood of a crash and ensure everyone gets where they need to and home safely.
- Paint a solid white centreline between 105 – 248 on Nixon Road to clearly define the separation on traffic lanes along the bend.
- Install an electronic curve waning sign outside 23 Nixon Road as a safety measure in the high-crash area.
- Install and replace advisory signs like advance speed and curve warning signs to help drivers manage their speeds and travel through the tight curve safely.
Benefits to your community:
Safer journeys – Reduces crash risk and makes the road safer for everyone.
Clearer signage – Helps drivers navigate the area confidently and safely.
Greater driver awareness – Encourages slower speeds and extra care at high-risk bends.
Improved markings and signs – Minimise the risk of loss-of-control crashes.
What happens next
We will install these in February/ April 2026.
Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
We will in touch with local residents and businesses before any work takes place.
