Engagement Outcome
In February 2026, we shared a proposal to improve parking availability near SeugagogoAoga Amata School in Ōtāhuhu.
We received a range of feedback, including concerns and opposition to the proposed changes from members of the local community. Our findings revealed that thepre‑school has access to on‑site parking that provides a safer pick‑up and drop‑off environment, separated from traffic on Nikau Road.
After carefully considering the insights received from the local residents, we have decided not to proceed with the current plans.
Thank you to everyone who shared their views and local knowledge. Your input has helped us better understand the needs of the area.
Community Feedback
Below are our responses to a summary of your comments, suggestions, and questions:
Your feedback
Our responses
Restricting parking in this area will directly reduce availability of parking for residents and surrounding properties.
Thank you for sharing your local knowledge.
After carefully considering the community feedback, we will not be progressing with the proposal at this time.
There is another daycare centre (“Busy Bees” at 41 Mason Avenue) located diagonally opposite the Aoga Amata, along with a busy GP practice at 44 Mason Avenue on the same side.
Parking behaviour around the GP is a concern, with patients often not following restrictions and parking along the street. This can block access for parents dropping off children at both preschools and needs to be addressed.
There is also no clear or safe cycling path on Mason Avenue, which could help reduce reliance on cars.
Thank you for sharing your local knowledge.
We acknowledge wider parking concerns in the area. However, this consultation focused on the proposed changes outside #4 Nikau Road, and issues raised about other locations are outside the scope of this proposal.
We have advised the community to report any illegal parking or blocked access to Auckland Transport’s Contact Centre on 09 355 3553, so it can be investigated and enforced.
The proposed drop off area will further clog an area already congested in the school rush and make Nikau Road more dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians.
This is not speculation - we know getting around Otahuhu at either end of the school day is already hazardous for pedestrians and cyclists because of cars pulling in and out of temporary parking or queuing to get to the temporary parks. The other hazard is opening car doors.
There is public parking available on Mason Ave, including a large public car park. Parents can use these and walk. This will keep the roads outside the pre-school safer for everyone.
Thank you for sharing your local knowledge.
After carefully considering the community feedback, we will not be progressing with the proposal at this time.
About the project
We’re responding to concerns raised by the community about improving parking availability on Nikau Road near Seugagogo Aoga Amata Pre-School in Ōtāhuhu.
To improve parking availability, we’re asking you for feedback on the planned changes for some time restricted parking spaces near the pre-school.
The aim is to make it easier for parents to pick up and drop off their children.
We want to know if it would be helpful to introduce time restrictions on a few parking spaces during busy dropping off and picking up times.
What we're planning in May/ June 2026:
Introducing P5 restrictions (7:30am-9am and 3pm-4:30pm) Monday to Friday outside #4 Nikau Road, Ōtāhuhu.
Benefits to your community:
Easier for parents and their children to access and leave the Pre-School.
Optimise the use of high-demand curb side space.
Having time restricted parking for parents picking up /dropping off their children.
Outside the pick-up and drop-off times, people can park for longer periods.
What happens next?
Any change to the plan and outcome for this propose will be updated on page.
We are planning to install these gates in May/June 2026
