About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community about improving visibility and crossing safety at the intersection near Matua Ngaru School. Cars parking too close to the corner of the intersection make it hard for drivers to see tamariki and families trying to cross the road.

McIndoe Road is a frequently used road for parents and their children during school drop off and pick up times. To make it safer for everyone, we're putting in new parking near the school to give drivers a clearer view of the road and people crossing.

This will improve safety for the community, particularly for children and parents walking near the intersection and crossing the road to attend the school.

The changes we’re making

  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside #77 McIndoe Road & 50 Gilbransen Road, Kumeū. To clear access and improve visibility, we need to reallocate road space and remove 8 parking spaces.

Benefits to your community:

  • Makes it safer and easier for people walking near McIndoe Road & Gilbransen Road, especially those heading to the schools nearby, by keeping the intersection clear.

  • Improves visibility for drivers to be aware of people walking and cycling, and those waiting to cross the road, especially during busy drop off and pick up times.

What happens next

We will install these changes in early 2026. Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

It will take one day to paint the road markings in good weather conditions.

We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.

Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
