About this project

We’ve received requests from the community to address safety concerns and improve visibility caused by vehicles parked illegally around the intersection of Larmer Drive and Matua Road in Kumeū.

With the popularity of the new playground, the street is experiencing a lot of on-street parking congestion at certain times, and vehicles parking too close to the intersection. Cars parked on both corners of Larmer Drive near the intersection of Matua Road, and directly across the exit point, presents a danger to drivers and other road users. There are safety risks for oncoming vehicles and anyone crossing the road.

The changes we’re making by February 2025

  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) around the intersection as detailed in drawing attached on the right hand side of the page. It is already illegal to park this close to the intersection, we are reinforcing this with broken yellow lines.

Benefits to your community

  • Clears congestion and ensures access for motorists entering or exiting Larmer Drive.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road
  • Makes it safer and easier for people walking to the new playground, particularly for tamariki (children) who can be hard to see when there are lots of cars parked on the road.

In good weather conditions, it will take one day to paint the broken yellow lines. We know this may cause an inconvenience, and we’ve tried to minimise this as much as possible.

We remind all drivers to park correctly and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.

What happens next

We will install these changes in February 2025.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
