About the project

Waiheke Island and Matiatia Wharf connect the community to our ferry services, and we need to do some maintenance work in 2025 to keep them operational for locals and visitors!

The work we will be doing will include

  • Renewal works on Pier 4
  • Relocating the Coastguard to accommodate future work on Pier 2
  • Relocation of redundant fuel pontoon to maximise public spaceDraft image of new layout of Matiatia Wharf

What you need to know when we start the work

We will be doing maintenance work on pier 4 that includes removing 10 piles and replacing them with 6, including a steel pile and removing and replacing the whaler system. This work is set to begin late April 2025 and will require temporary closure of Pier 4.

We will also be relocating the out-of-use fuel pump and pontoon by about 6 metres and placing 4 new piles. This is to accommodate the new Coastguard location and provide an alternative area for dinghy’s, enabling the existing pontoon edge to be kept clear for berthing vessels.

What to expect during construction

This work will not impact current ferry services, and we will work with ferry service providers and operators to inform you of any changes ahead of time.

Auckland Transport is working alongside specialists to ensure our work does not have any long-term impact on the local environment.

Benefits to your Community

  • Matiatia is Auckland's second busiest wharf and this maintenance work will ensure continued use for all.
  • Provide a dedicated space for public dinghy mooring on pier 4.

How to contact us

Our team will be on-site to keep things running smoothly. We’re working closely with the community to keep everyone informed throughout this project.
