About the project

We have received a request from Marlborough Primary School to formalise closing Wykeham Place during school drop off and pick up times, making it a “School Street”. This makes the street an official no-access area during specific times.

The school has been asking parents and caregivers not to use this area for pickup and drop off and they have seen how effective it was in improving safety for the children and reducing congestion around the school gate.

The changes we're making by 2025 - School Term 1:

  • Setting up cones near the intersection of Wykeham Place and Lingfield Street to create a barrier during school pick up (8.15am to 9.15am) and drop off times (2.15pm to 3.15pm)
  • Installing “School Street” signs indicating the time the road is being closed during school days

Restricted access is for non-residents during the scheduled times. There will be an assigned staff member managing the traffic cones to ensure access for residents.

Benefits to your community

  • Ensures tamariki can walk safely outside the school gate and improves visibility as they can be seen
  • Gives everyone a better view of the road as the area outside the school is always kept clear
  • Relieves traffic issues and congestion for residents during pick up and drop off hours as parents and caregivers can only park outside Wykeham Place

What happens next

We will install these changes by 2025 - School Term 1.

We encourage the community to monitor and observe the impact of these changes and provide feedback by emailing us once the “School Street” is in place, so we can address concerns and make improvements as needed.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
