Engagement outcome

Thank you to everyone who reached out to us to provide their insights and ask questions about our planned changes outside Lincoln heights Primary School.

After careful consideration, we are proceeding with the project as planned.

Raw supportive comments from the community

  • “ I think this is great idea. Residents that reside on Keegan Rd, have their driveways blocked by parents, they have asked them to please move, however they are threatened with assault and abused. Parking Officer are exposed to threats and abusive every time they attend. Parking Officers have experienced drunk parents picking up and dropping off their children. Safety of the Tamariki is top priority.”
  • “Very happy to hear about the works going on to make our street safer for the children, as a resident of over 20 years is (sic) is much needed.
  • “I am so so happy to hear of this plan to improve the safety of the children, and this will improve my life also. I am a resident on Keegan Drive and I am trapped and unable to get out of my driveway at the drop off and pick up times…”
  • “Thank you, Auckland Transport! This is a brilliant plan and something that should be rolled out city-wide. It will not only allow children to walk and roll to school safely, but will also encourage families to leave the car at home.”

What happens next

  • We are looking at installing these changes by 2025- School Term 4.

  • We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.

  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.

We encourage the community to monitor and observe the impact of these changes and provide their insights once the “School Street” is in place, so we can address concerns and make improvements as needed.

Engagement closed

The engagement for this project has now closed and we will inform the community about the engagement outcome soon.

About the project

We have a request from Lincoln Heights School in Massey to formalise closing a section of Keegan Drive during school pick up and drop off times, making it a “School Street”. This makes the street an official no-access area during specific times.

Illegal parking near the school gate during busy hours in the morning and afternoon creates safety and accessibility issues for students and residents along Keegan Drive.

The changes we’re making

  • Setting up cones from #13 Keegan Drive to #42 Keegan Drive to create a barrier during school drop off (8.15am to 9.15am) and pick up times (2.15pm to 3.15pm)

  • Installing “School Street” signs indicating the time the road is being closed during school days

Restricted access is for non-residents during the scheduled times. There will be an assigned staff member managing the traffic cones to ensure access for residents.

Benefits to your community:

  • Ensures tamariki can walk safely outside the school gate especially during busy hours
  • Gives everyone a better view of the road as the area outside the school is always kept clear
  • Relieves traffic issues and congestion for residents during pick up and drop off hours as parents and caregivers can only park outside the restricted section of Keegan Drive
