What is the trial for?

The community has raised concerns about drivers using Library Lane as a shortcut to avoid Albany Highway and Oteha Valley Road. This practice leads to congestion when traffic merges onto Dairy Flat Highway, particularly during the afternoon peak hours. The purpose of this trial is to find a permanent solution to the current afternoon congestion.

Why conduct this trial during afternoon peak hours?

We have observed that congestion occurs during the busiest times on school days, specifically between 4pm and 7pm, which is why the trial will take place during these hours.

How long is the trial? Will there be detours?

The trial will run for just 4 days, from October 13 to 16, between 4pm and 7pm.

During this period, only the entry to Library Lane from Albany Highway will be closed, with detours and traffic management in place.

Why is this important for Tāmaki Makaurau's traffic management?

This trial is part of our work to keep Tāmaki Makaurau moving and connected now and into the future, by testing smarter ways to manage congestion and improve daily commutes.

How can the community get involved in the trial?

We encourage the community to share their insights about the trial as it happens. Email us at ATEngagement@at.govt.nz or complete the short survey on our website by 24 October 2025.

Insights received from the community during the trial will be taken into account.

What happens if the trial is successful?

If the trial demonstrates there is ease in traffic congestion, we will proceed with installing permanent traffic signals in the area.
