Project Update (as of February 2025)

We initially informed the community that we will be installing the footpath in July 2024.

But due to budget constraints, construction has now been moved till after July 2025.

This gives us the opportunity to refine our design plans to make sure high-quality standard is prioritised while trying to meet the community's needs.

About the project

We are making it safer and easier for people to get around by installing footpaths along Koraha Road in Kumeū.

This project is an important part of the Rodney Local Board Transport Targeted Rate Programme.

The changes we're making

  • Install a footpath that will extend from Oraha Road to Weza Lane
  • Install a new crossing island along Oraha Road that will allow people to safely wait for a gap in traffic (while giving way to motorists) to finish crossing the road.
  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) at the corner of Oraha and Koraha Road, Weza Lane and Koraha Road to provide visibility at the intersection and clear access by preventing vehicles from parking near the entry and exit points of the intersection
  • Remove a total of 28 trees to make way for the footpath and will soon replace them through Auckland Council
  • Build new footpaths and drainage at small portions along Koraha Road
  • Install Give Way road marking and pram crossings at the corner of Weza Lane and Koraha Road
  • Reconstruct driveways impacted by the new footpath

Benefits to your community

  • Footpaths make it safer for the community by separating motorists and traffic from people on foot and completes missing footpath links
  • More footpaths offer better connections to schools, parks, public transport and other local amenities.
  • Pram crossings make it safer and more convenient for people pushing prams or strollers to cross roads. It has a small ramp at the curb level reducing the need to lift the pram which can be unsafe, especially when managing traffic. It helps ensure those with mobility needs can navigate crossings more easily.
  • New road markings clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions, and ensures compliance with traffic regulations.
  • Encouraging walking and cycling is good for the environment and good for your health. It helps reduce reliance on cars for local trips, decreasing traffic congestion and reducing our carbon emissions.

What happens next

We are now looking at installing the plan till after July 2025.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
