Community Feedback

Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.

We heard from 9 respondents with 8 survey responses and 1 email.  Most people had the businesses nearby or lived in the area.

Summary of the feedback count:

  • 7 people expressed that the changes would benefit the community.
  • 1 person stated that the changes would benefit the community but also made a suggestion.
  • 1 person advised the proposal would not benefit the community.

Below is a summary of your feedback and our responses.

Feedback in support of the changes:

  • “Yay, I want them to increase the parking time.”
  • “This was needed a long time ago “Delighted this is happening.”
  • "Increasing the parking time would be helpful."
  • “More time for people to spend in shops rather than grabbing what’s only necessary and rushing off to avoid fines for a 10-minute parking only.”
  • “Definitely benefit the business and customer. You have already identified the businesses that need it. Just common sense to implement it. Thriving neighbourhoods.”
  • “It would benefit the community as everyone has a longer time to shop in the heart of Papatoetoe.

Feedback in suggestion to improve the project:

Parking Duration

  • Suggests reducing the proposed P60 to P30 time restrictions
  • Concerns the proposed P60 time restriction would be too long, as the shops adjacent to the parking are takeaways and fast food. Anyone wanting longer parking should use the designated parking areas.
  • Suggests reducing the proposed P60 time restrictions to between P15 and P30 minutes to better accommodate all businesses, especially takeaways.

We appreciate your feedback and understand that P30 may suit some customers or businesses. However, we propose parking time restrictions based on the needs of the majority of businesses operating in the area.

P60 restrictions provide ample time for most customers to complete their visit, even when they intend to visit multiple businesses in one trip.

Additionally, P15 parking spaces for short-stay visitors are located less than 80 meters from the proposed area.

About the project

Businesses on Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe, have requested a time increase of the current P10 parking restriction for the four parking spaces outside their premises.

During the site visit, we observed that vehicles parked in the bay often stayed for at least 30 minutes, despite the 10-minute limit. The businesses in the area such as a restaurant, barber shop and jewellery shops, need longer time restrictions than the current P10 restrictions for their customers.

To address this timing issue, we are proposing some changes and would appreciate your feedback.

What we are proposing

  • Increase the time of the current P10 time restriction to a P60 parking time restriction outside 149 Kolmar Road.
  • These restrictions will apply from Monday-Sunday, 8am to 6pm.
