Kenderdine Road and Bridge Street Intersection Improvement Project

About the project
Heads up! We are proposing to upgrade this intersection in respond to safety issues raised by the community. This will make walking, cycling and driving safer and easier, so everyone gets where they need to and home safely.
Between 2018 and 2025, there have been 15 reported crashes at this intersection, including one serious injury and five minor injuries. Approximately 70% of these incidents involved turning vehicles that failed to give way. Key issues contributing to these crashes include driver confusion due to the unconventional priority layout, high traffic volumes making right turns difficult, resulting in delays of up to one minute, and a lack of pedestrian crossing facilities despite the presence of nearby schools and a train station.
What are we proposing?
Installing a mountable urban roundabout with associated splitter islands, signage and markings
Installing a new pedestrian crossing facility on Kenderdine Road, north approach, to provide a safer crossing facility for the community
Upgrade the pram crossing on Milan Road
Loss of five parking spaces on Kenderdine Road outside #98
Loss of two parking spaces on Milan Road outside #63
Benefits and impacts
The roundabout will slow vehicle speeds and allow for safer crossing and turning movements
A better layout at this intersection will make it easier for drivers to navigate and reduce the current confusion on who has priority
A zebra crossing will provide a priority safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.
Upgraded pram crossings and shared paths will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists accessing this intersection.
Parking changes will involve removing seven parking spaces (see plan for details) and painting broken yellow lines to provide queueing spaces for vehicles, and to ensure pedestrians crossing the road can see approaching vehicles.
