Consultation Outcome

We want to thank the community of Roys Road and Ocean View Road for their engagement and feedback on our proposal to improve road safety and pedestrian crossings facilities by installing a raised pedestrian crossing near the main gate of Keith Park

After carefully considering all the feedback, we are proceeding with the proposal, making minor changes to the new location of the bus stop. The bus stop will be moved south towards #3 Ocean View Road to avoid conflicts with the driveways at #5 and #7 Ocean View Road.

What happens next

We expect to have these changes implemented by May/June 2025.

We'll be in touch with residents before any changes take place.

Feedback summary

Thank you for helping us make better decisions for your neighbourhood, informed by your local knowledge.

We heard from 09 respondents and 01 respondent emailed as well as completed the survey.

Most respondents either live in the area or visit Keith Park often or occasionally.

The majority were supportive of the proposed raised pedestrian crossing on Roys Road, near the Keith Park entrance.

People told us that the main benefit of the changes would be improved road safety for people walking to the park, including children and others with wheelchairs and prams accessing the park.

We also received a response expressing concerns about the cost incurred and whether the changes were necessary and if this spending is required.

About the project

Upon receiving request from the community to help create a safer road environment for people accessing Keith Park, Roys Road, and to slow down speeding vehicles, we are proposing changes near the entrance of Keith Park to improve overall road safety in the neighbourhood.

Currently, there is no pedestrian crossing along Roys Road to get to Keith Park.

We expect these changes will improve overall road safety and benefit all road users.

We would appreciate your feedback on the proposed changes.

What we are proposing

We are proposing to:

  • Install a raised pedestrian crossing near the entrance of Keith Park, at 31 Roys Road
  • Relocate the bus stop at 25 Roys Road to 5 Ocean View Road to provide a safer and better bus stop
  • Upgrade the pram crossing at the intersection of Ocean Road and Roys Road.
  • Remove fifteen parking spaces on Roys Road and paint broken yellow lines, to prevent vehicles from blocking the visibility of pedestrians to oncoming traffic
  • Remove five parking spaces on Ocean View Road to provide space for the new bus stop
  • Extend the kerb side to shorten the crossing distance
  • Install streetlights to improve visibility at the crossing

Benefits and impacts

  • Raising the crossing alerts drivers to slow down on approach.
  • Provides a safe, dedicated crossing point for pedestrians
  • Improves visibility and ensures people crossing can be seen by motorists.
  • Encourages motorists to travel at safer speed.
  • Bus stop with safer access

This proposal is supported by the Manurewa Local Board. The project is funded through the Local Board Transport Capital Fund, used to make improvements based on community priorities which may not be covered by other programmes of work.

Auckland Transport would be delivering the project on behalf of the Local Board.

We expect these changes will improve overall road safety in the neighbourhood and benefit all road users and our communities.
