Proposed changes
Installing a 700m eastbound T2/Heavy Vehicle transit lane (for vehicles with two or more people and trucks) between 2 and 20 Sylvia Park Road to help traffic move better towards the motorway.
Installing compliance cameras to ensure the transit lane is used correctly.
Installing a 750m northbound (towards Sylvia Park mall) T2/Heavy Vehicle lane on the kerbside lane between 629 Mt Wellington Highway (near Hillside Road) and 503 Mt Wellington Highway (at the bus stop).
Installing a 650m southbound (toward Otāhuhu) T2/Heavy Vehicle lane on the kerbside lane between 510 Mt Wellington Highway and 622 Mt Wellington Highway (near Hillside Road).
Installing compliance cameras to ensure the transit lane is used correctly.
Installing a clearway on the west side of Panama Road (outside 9 to 17/5 Panama Road) to improve traffic flow. No parking will be allowed from 4–7pm (approximately 90 metres).
Changing the lane markings at the Clemow Drive roundabout so there are only two lanes going through. The current shared lane will become a right-turn-only lane, making merging safer.
Upgrading the road markings at bus stop #7808 (503 Mt Wellington Highway, outside Bristar Logistics).
Upgrading the road markings and footpath at bus stop #7807 (525 Mt Wellington Highway).
Upgrading the road markings and adding a new bus shelter to bus stop #7805 (580 Mt Wellington Highway).
Changing these parking spaces to P30 (30-minute parking) to help customers access the convenience store.
Sylvia Park Road (heading towards the motorway onramp)
Sylvia Park Road gets very congested in the evenings, especially for people heading to the motorway seeing delays of up to 1.5 mins. Buses, trucks, and cars all end up stuck in one lane. Click here to view the planned design.
We propose:
Mt Wellington Highway (between Clemow Drive and Hillside Road)
Mt Wellington Highway often gets congested in both directions during the evening rush, especially when traffic backs up from the motorway. This makes travel times unreliable for cars, buses, and freight vehicles, and makes it harder for buses to stay on time. Click here to view the planned design.
We propose:
Panama Road (between Ryburn Road and Mt Wellington Highway)
Currently, all vehicles heading towards Mt Wellington Highway from Panama Road can only use one lane to queue until they get to the intersection where three lanes become available. But with the introduction of a T2 lane, non-T2 vehicles will be restricted to a single right-turn lane at the intersection, which could worsen congestion. A clearway is needed to ensure there’s enough space for all vehicles to queue, helping to reduce the impact on traffic flow. Click here to view the planned design.
We propose:
Mt Wellington Highway/Clemow Drive roundabout (southbound towards Otāhuhu)
Currently, three lanes exit the roundabout, but after the roundabout, traffic has to quickly merge into one lane, which is unsafe and creates delays. Click here to view the planned design.
We propose:
Bus Stops #7808, #7807 and #7805 (Mt Wellington Highway)
The bus stops along Mt Wellington Highway are old and need improvements. Some stops are missing proper road markings, boarding areas or shelters, making it harder for buses and passengers. Click here to view the planned design.
We propose:
Mount Richmond Superette, 648 Mt Wellington Highway
There are three parking spaces outside Mount Richmond Superette meant for customers, but they are often taken by residents or people visiting nearby sports fields. Click here to view the planned design.
