Improving road safety along Kahikatea Flat Road, Dairy Flat
Kia ora,
To improve safety, we’re proposing to install rumble strips on the centreline and edge line markings along the entire length of Kahikatea Flat Road, excluding the section through Waitoki town centre. When drivers leave their lane and driver over the edge or centrelines a rumbling sensation will be felt and heard, which helps alert drivers. Rumble strips are also reflective and are more visible than a standard painted line, especially at night-time or in wet conditions.
In the recent years, there was a high number of crashes recorded along this road, and installing rumble strips will improve safety for all road users along the corridor. We will also extend a minor shoulder seal outside #660 Kahikatea Flat Road, Waitoki.
A drawing showing the site of changes can be seen below.
What happens next
We will be in touch with local residents before any work takes place.
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
