About the project
The key goals of the Safe School Streets programme were to test temporary infrastructure improvements that support road safety around schools and encourage more active modes of transport to and from schools with the increased level of safety.
At Willow Park School, we trialled measures along Eban Avenue, Compton Street, and Moore Street to help reduce vehicle speeds and improve pedestrian safety. Feedback was received during the trial and shaped the changes made over its course. After the trial, we found the measures successfully helped to reduce speeds and improve safety. The temporary infrastructure remained in place while we planned the permanent design and worked to secure funding for delivery.
Here’s a breakdown of the permanent infrastructure we’ll be building over the temporary infrastructure:
Temporary change
Permanent replacement
Mini roundabout and planter boxes at the intersection of Eban Avenue and Compton Street
The mini roundabout at this intersection will remain as it is. We will remove the planter boxes and install speed tables outside 77 Eban Avenue and 49 Compton Street.
Intersection tightening at existing intersection crossing locations
Tactiles pavers to be installed and the footpath at the intersections below will be upgraded:
Eban Avenue and Compton Street
Eban Avenue and Moore Street
Moore Street and Compton Street
One way operation at the intersection of Compton Street with Moore Street
Planted traffic island to be installed outside 108 Compton Street with appropriate signage
Speed cushions on Compton Street, Eban Avenue and Sylvia Road
All the speed cushions to be replaced by speed tables
Drawings on the right-hand side of this webpage show where the changes will be installed.
What happens next
We plan to install these changes in early 2025.
Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
