About the project

The key goals of the Safe School Streets programme were to test temporary infrastructure improvements that support road safety around schools and encourage more active modes of transport to and from schools with the increased level of safety.

At Glenfield Primary, we trialled measures along Chivalry Road to help reduce vehicle speeds near the school gate. Feedback was received during the trial and shaped the changes made over its course. After the trial, we found the measures successfully helped to reduce speeds and improve safety. The temporary infrastructure remained in place while we planned the permanent design and worked to secure funding for delivery.

For more information about the Glenfield Primary Safe School Streets trial, visit the original Safe School Streets programme page for Glenfield Primary at the Auckland Council Have Your Say hub.

The changes we're making

Here’s a breakdown of the permanent infrastructure we’ll be building over the temporary infrastructure:

The temporary changeThe permanent replacement
Red school threshold painted on the road, rubber speed cushions and flexi posts on Chivalry Road
To be replaced with permanent speed cushions and concrete cycle separators; the red school threshold will remain permanently as is.
Rubber speed cushions and flexi posts before and after the school crossing on Chivalry Road
To be replaced with permanent speed cushions and concrete side islands.

Drawings on the right-hand side of this webpage show where the changes will be installed.

What happens next

We plan to install these changes in early 2025.

Any change to the plan will be updated on this page.

We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any construction taking place.
