Why are you moving the 3488 bus stop (next to the Belmont Shops playground)?

The 814 bus currently accesses its stop next to the Belmont Shops playground, before re-entering Williamson Avenue by moving in front of waiting vehicles. It then passes the slip lane and pedestrian crossing before continuing onto Lake Road towards Devonport.

This manoeuvre is difficult, requiring buses to push past the intersection in front of queued vehicles, at times, blocking straight through traffic during their green traffic light phase.

With the removal of the current bus stop, the 814 bus will instead use a new stop on Lake Road, near the existing location, which will include a shelter.

Why is route 805 being rerouted via Seacliffe Avenue and Winscombe Street?

The reroute supports the wider intersection improvements and removes the current awkward bus turn through the intersection. When the 805 bus finishes a trip from Devonport it needs to turn around to begin its return trip back to Devonport. Winscombe Street and Seacliffe Avenue provide the shortest route to do this.

Why are you proposing a bus layover on Williamson Avenue?

Williamson Avenue keeps bus services close to Belmont Shops while supporting safer and simpler bus maneuvering through the intersection.

What happens at a bus layover?

A bus will wait in a layover area between its last and next trip. Because buses are large vehicles, they require dedicated parking space. Layovers provide this space while also giving drivers time to rest or wait until their next scheduled departure.

I’m a business owner, how will this affect parking?

We understand parking is important for local businesses and customers. Some parking changes are needed to improve safety and traffic flow, however we are also converting the existing bus stop area into parking to help offset some impacts. The weekday morning clearway would only operate during weekday morning rush, with parking still available outside these hours.

Is this a major road widening project?

No. This is a low-cost optimisation project focused on the Belmont shops intersection in order to improvcongestion and safety using the existing road space.
