About the project

We're responding to requests from the community to make the walkway beside 22 Ascension Crescent for tamariki and families walking to and from Orewa Primary School.

Cars parking near the walkway are making it hard for drivers to see people using the path to access the school. This creates safety risks, especially for children crossing the road.

To improve safety and visibility, we're making a few changes.

The changes we're making by February 2026

  • Installing around 8m of no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) near the walkway between #22 and #24 Ascension Crescent. We need to clear access and improve visibility and reallocate road space by removing one parking space to make this change.
  • Installing a white hockey stick marking at the indented parking near #21 Ascension Crescent, to guide driver to park correctly without blocking the driveway.

Benefits to your community

  • Clears and ensures ease of access for all residents to be able to use their driveways safely.
  • Improves visibility for drivers to see oncoming cars, people walking, cycling and crossing the road, making the street safer for the community.
  • The white hockey stick marking will guide drivers to park in the right place without blocking residents driveway access.
  • Safer access to school walkway for people walking, including children and families.

What happens next

  • Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
  • It will take one day to paint the road marking in good weather conditions.
  • We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will tried to minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
  • Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
