About the project
As part of our Road Safety Programme, we are planning to install a new mountable roundabout at the intersection of Brightside Road and Kauri Road. This upgrade will improve safety for all road users and provide safer crossing facilities for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The changes we’re making:
- New mountable roundabout to improve intersection safety.
- Two new pedestrian refuge crossings on Brightside Road and upgrade the existing refuge crossing on Kauri Road with wider central islands.
- Upgrade the new and existing pram crossings with tactile pavers to the current design standards.
- Paint no stopping at all times (Broken Yellow Lines) to improve visibility for the new pedestrian crossing facility near 135 Brightside Road. For this we will need to remove 2 parking spaces.
- New road signs and markings to support the new road layout.
A larger drawing showing the changes can be found to the right of this page.
Benefits to your community:
- Safer for Everyone: A new roundabout will improve safety for all road users by slowing speeds and reducing the chance of crashes and near misses at the intersection.
- Better Traffic Movement: The roundabout will help manage busy roads and make it easier for vehicles to move through the area.
- Family- Friendly Design: Safe crossing facilities help make commuting and getting around your neighbourhood easier and less stressful for you, our Tamariki, and the wider community.
- Encourages Active Modes: Wider footpaths and other upgrades will make it safer and more convenient for families to walk and cycle in the area.
What happens next:
- We will install these changes in the 2026/2027 Financial Year.
- We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
- Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
