About the project

We’re responding to requests from the community and local board to increase safety and visibility for people crossing the road at the Mairangi Bay Park pathway adjacent to 48 Hastings Road. To improve safety and make this part of Hastings Road safer for everyone to use, we are proposing some changes.

We recently installed of red coloured surfacing with “SLOW” pavement markings and advanced pedestrian warning signs. While these measures have improved driver awareness, we have received feedback that there are visibility constraints particularly due to the road geometry. The removal of these parking spaces in this section of road will improve visibility sightlines between pedestrians and vehicles.

The changes we're proposing

  • Installing no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside #44, #46, #47, #48 Hastings Road.

What happens next

  • Following community engagement, we will be apply for a legal resolution to support these parking changes.
  • Following approval, we expect to implement the changes in July 2026.
