About the project
We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community to improve crossing safety near Swanson Station Park and opposite 757 Swanson Road in Swanson.
We’ve heard concerns about parked cars blocking visibility near the crossing island. Many people in the community cross here to get to and from the park, Swanson Train Station and nearby shops safely. By adding no stopping lines, we’ll make it easier for drivers to see people waiting to cross, and for people crossing to see oncoming traffic.
The changes we're making by September 2025
Paint "no stopping at all times: (broken yellow lines) on both approaches of the existing crossing islands opposite 757 Swanson Road.
Benefits to your community
Improves visibility at this crossing facility for people walking, cycling and crossing the road. This makes it safer particularly for tamariki (children), who can be hard to see when there are lots of cars parked on the road.
Improves access to properties, Swanson Train Station, nearby shops, parks and reserves.
Fewer near collisions or unsafe situations near the crossing island.
What happens next
Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.
It will take one day to paint the road markings in good weather conditions.
We know this may cause some inconvenience, and we will minimise this as much as possible while balancing safety concerns.
Please remember to park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parking illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed away.
