About the project
In response to concerns raised by the community to give priority to people crossing Glencoe Road, we’re improving safety for people, especially school children, who bike and walk to the nearby Sherwood Reserve.
The changes we've made in February 2026
- Installed a new zebra crossing with a reconstructed crossing island to slow drivers on approach and give priority to people when crossing the road.
- Painted no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside 145 Glencoe Road and 186 Stapleford Crescent, to improve access and visibility. We will need to clear access and visibility.
- Installed new pram crossings with yellow tactile pavers at the crossing point to make it more convenient for people pushing prams or strollers and ensuring those with mobility needs can navigate crossings more easily.
- Widened the footpath on either side of the crossing and on both corners of Glencoe Road to give more room for people to safely wait to cross.
- Installed signs and road markings to warn motorists of the approaching crossing.
In June we expect to complete the installation of the high-friction road surface to improve skid resistance ahead of the crossing.
Benefits to your community
- Encourages drivers to slow down and take extra care when approaching the crossing and improves visibility between motorists and people crossing the road.
- Improves safety for everyone.
- New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions and ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
