About the project

In response to concerns raised by the community to give priority to people crossing Glencoe Road, we’re improving safety for people, especially school children, who bike and walk to the nearby Sherwood Reserve.

The changes we're making by February 2026

  • Installing a new zebra crossing with a reconstructed crossing island to slow drivers on approach and give priority to people when crossing the road. The crossing island is a small section of pavement within the median strip, surrounded by concrete. It helps people crossing to safely wait for a gap in traffic to finish crossing the road.
  • Paint no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) outside 145 Glencoe Road and 186 Stapleford Crescent, to improve access and visibility. We will need to clear access and visibility by reallocating road space which will remove four parking spaces
  • Installing new pram crossings with yellow tactile pavers at the crossing point to make it more convenient for people pushing prams or strollers and ensuring those with mobility needs can navigate crossings more easily.
  • Install a high-friction road surface to improve skid resistance ahead of the proposed crossing.
  • Widening the footpath on either side of the crossing and on both corners of Glencoe Road to give more room for people to safely wait to cross.
  • Install signs and road markings to warn motorists of the approaching crossing.

Benefits to your community

  • Encourages drivers to slow down and take extra care when approaching the crossing and improves visibility between motorists and people crossing the road
  • Improves safety for everyone of different accessibility needs and for speed reduction outside the reserve
  • New road markings and signs will clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions and ensure compliance with traffic regulations
