Hill Street – We’re Improving pedestrian safety on your street
As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, we are proposing to install pedestrian improvements at the Church Street and Hill Street intersection in Onehunga. These changes aim to enhance pedestrian safety and traffic calming.
The changes we are making:
- Installing new side islands as a dedicated area for pedestrians to cross the road
- Installing refuge islands that provide a safe refuge for people crossing the road
- Bus stop relocation to increase visibility for drivers and pedestrians
- Install tactile pavers. These are yellow guidance paving markers to help visually impaired people to find their way to crossings and safely across roads.
- New broken yellow lines (no stopping at all times) to increase visibility for drivers and pedestrians
- These changes will result in the loss of 7 on street car parks
The benefits to your community:
- Creates a safe pedestrian crossing facilities for everyone, including children, seniors, and people with mobility needs, along Church Street and Hill Street.
A drawing showing the changes has been included below

What happens next:
- We will be in touch with residents before any work takes place.
- Any change to the plan will be updated on our website.
