Hetherington Road Footpath

Auckland Transport is planning improvements on Hetherington Road, between Wallace Road and the existing footpath outside 99 Hetherington Road.

This project was initiated in response to community requests about the missing footpath connection and concerns regarding pedestrian access and safety in the area.

The changes we're proposing:

We are proposing to:

• Completing the missing footpath on the southern side of Hetherington Road, between Wallace Road and the existing footpath outside 99 Hetherington Road.
• Building out the kerbs at the Wallace Road intersection.
• Installing a new pedestrian crossing island with tactile pavers, providing a safer place for people to pause while crossing the road.
• Installing broken yellow lines, which mean no stopping at all times, near the Wallace Road and Mili Way intersections. This will help maintain clear visibility for pedestrians and vehicles turning into and out of the side roads.
• Installing a small section of broken yellow lines at the existing bus stop outside 99 Hetherington Road to bring the bus stop markings up to the required standard.
• Reconstructing affected vehicle crossings and improving the grassy areas beside the footpath.
• Relocating existing trees to accommodate the proposed improvements.
• Removing four on-street parking spaces to provide adequate visibility of pedestrians crossing and to support safer bus stop operation.
• Installing new signs, road markings and yellow tactile paving to help people cross safely.

What happens next:

• Following community engagement, we will seek approval for legal resolution for the parking changes.
• Following approval, we expect to implement the changes between February and June 2027, subject to funding availability.
• Notification will be sent to the community before any works start.
