About the project

We’re responding to safety concerns raised by the community about the narrow bend on Hetherington Road. When vehicles park along this curve, it forces moving traffic closer to the adjacent lane, significantly increasing the risk of head-on collisions.

To address this, we’re making changes to improve safety for everyone using this road.

The changes we’re making by April 2026

  • Paint “no stopping at all times” (broken yellow lines) along the bend on Hetherington Road to prevent vehicles from parking in this high-risk area.

Benefits to your community

  • Reduces the risk of head-on collisions by keeping the bend clear of parked vehicles.
  • Improves visibility and space for drivers navigating the curve.
  • Enhances safety for all road users, including people walking and cycling.
  • Helps maintain smoother traffic flow on this narrow section of road.

What happens next

  • We will contact residents and businesses before any work begins.
  • Any updates to the plan will be posted on our website.
  • Painting the road markings will take one day in good weather conditions.
  • We understand this may cause some inconvenience and will minimize disruption while prioritizing safety.
  • Please park courteously and avoid blocking driveways. Vehicles parked illegally may receive infringement notices or be towed.
