Half Moon Bay - Sealink Ferry Terminal Renewals

Project Background

The Half Moon Bay vehicle ferry terminal is essential for connecting communities to our ferry services. As one of the main gateways to Waiheke Island and currently under SeaLink operations, this project aims to improve the reliability of the Half-Moon Bay Vehicle Terminal.

Auckland Transport will soon be undertaking renewal work alongside the Sealink Ferry Terminal to ensure the terminal remains operational and suitable for future use. The increased size of vessels using the terminal makes the existing berthing structure no longer fit for purpose. Additionally, several components of the existing infrastructure are approaching the end of their serviceable lives and need replacing.

The Work We Are Doing

The work we are doing will involve replacing/remediating three existing dolphin structures and adding a new Northern Dolphin to accommodate larger ferries. We will install reinforced concrete piles to support the dolphins, which will also be constructed of reinforced concrete and protected by a timber fendering system. A temporary gangway system will be installed for worker safety and access.

Please be advised that this work will be undertaken without disruption to SeaLink’s services. To do so, the Contractor must erect temporary support ramps and structures to support a crane. Most of the work will be done using two construction barges.

Our team will establish effective noise and vibration control measures and initiate shutdown procedures if marine mammals are detected in the vicinity.

Please note – These works will not impact SeaLink’s ferry services

Scope of Work

Project timeline

This project is set to begin in April 2025 and take approximately 9 months to complete.
