Consultation Outcome
After listening to the community and with the support of the Albert-Eden Local Board, we are proceeding with changes that balance key concerns of parking loss and support for pedestrian safety.
The original proposal required five parking spaces to be removed. Our revised design to improve pedestrian safety keeps the total number of parking spaces outside the Greenwoods Corner shops the same.
We are proceeding with the following changes:
Installing a new crossing outside 571 Manukau Road
Reshaping the existing two stage crossing to a standard crossing
Retaining four parking spaces outside 571 Manukau Road and introducing one new parking space outside 604 Manukau (net zero parking loss).

Next steps
We're looking to start construction in March/April 2025.
We will be in contact with the local community before construction starts.
To receive information about construction please email projects@at.govt.nz or ATengagement@at.govt.nz, with the subject line Greenwoods Corner.
About the project
We’re working hard to keep everyone safe, whether they walk, cycle or drive. Alongside the Albert-Eden Local Board, and due to high pedestrian demand at Greenwoods Corner for safer access to nearby businesses, we proposed to make some changes to improve pedestrian safety at Greenwoods Corner in Royal Oak.
What we proposed
We’re improving pedestrian safety at Greenwoods Corner in Royal Oak.
Installing a new traffic-light controlled crossing near 571 Manukau Road.
Realignment of the existing staggered crossing with traffic lights at 582 Manukau Road to a standard crossing with traffic lights.
Rebuilding footpaths and installing yellow tactile pavers to help people find their way to crossings and safely cross the road.
Extending the kerb at the north-east corner of the intersection. This would make it safer for pedestrians navigating the road and reduce the distance between one side of the signalised crossing and the other.
Painting no stopping at all times (broken yellow lines) at the intersection in front of 571 Manukau Road, which would remove approximately 5 parking spaces.
Installing new signage and paint new road markings to support the proposed changes.
Benefits and impacts
This project aims to improve pedestrian safety for all road users.
We want to work with you to deliver safer roads in your neighbourhood. These changes would:
A traffic light-controlled crossing helps manage traffic on a busy road and gives better visibility to drivers when it comes to seeing pedestrians.
Provides a safe crossing location for pedestrians to access businesses.
Reduction in harm or serious injuries between motorists and people walking and cycling.
Slows drivers to a safer speed around the crossing point.
Low impact on traffic flow as crossing time is only activated when someone needs to cross by pushing the button.
