We are asking for feedback from nearby residents and businesses about improvements to cycle lanes in Manukau.

About the project

Auckland Transport aims to improve safety for cyclists on Great South Road, Manukau by installing concrete separators along the existing painted cycle lane.

In 2022 the project was included in the pop-up protections programme and underwent public consultation. However, due to the funding losing priority status, the project was put on hold.

Funding has now been secured, so we can continue with the project.

Benefits and impacts

These changes will:

  • Improve safety
  • Make it easier for people in cars to share the road
  • Create a more enjoyable experience for cyclists
  • Remove 42 on street parks along the entire 2km route

These changes will not:

  • Create any changes to rubbish or recycling bin collection.
  • Limit or change access to driveways, parking and side road intersections

Projects like this one are another step towards our goal of achieving no deaths or serious injuries on our roads.

What we are proposing

  • Installing physical separators along the existing painted cycle lanes for 2km along Great South Road, Manukau
  • Realign the cycle lane against the kerb on the section of Great South Road between Central Avenue and Watson Place.
